A revue of Reviews

Usually I like to stick to the topic of gaming experiences, and how they can be bettered. Although I could, I feel compelled to talk about reviewing in general, and how the process is done and how, in a perfect world, it should be done. It follows on from the news that Quintin Smith’s review of Age of Conan was withdrawn by Eurogamer, which I noted, but then also saw the comments on the review and the journalistic defences put forward by everyone but Smith.

Announcement and stuff

There was supposed to be a post yesterday, but it appears I pressed the wrong button. I blame me. Seeing as I forgot, that post will show up tomorrow. Which leads me nicely into this post.

The current readership of How To Play is about 20 or so for each post, assuming that each view I have is unique and is for one post. However, I’m still a student, with the joys of exams looming. With that in mind plus various other things, content on here is going to be slightly less regular. I’m currently doing 2 posts a week, each being at least 500, sometimes more. With the amount of readership I have, it’s not worth killing myself over 2 posts a week with this amount of readers. As such, I’m changing my schedule to 1 per week on a Thursday.

There’s evidently people who like this (30+ readers came every day), so I won’t close this down. Mr Lager from Gaming Daily has asked for a pitch, so he evidently doesn’t hate this. So hopefully, in the near future, I’ll be getting occasional posts on there. Feel free to look out for me.

I’m also looking forward to doing another playthrough or series on a game. Depending on how the GD stuff goes, I may be asking around there if they wish to partake in a Frozen Synapse tournament. Feel free to come back tomorrow to read the review (ish) of that tomorrow. Either that, or I could have a look at the next Hitman game.

So, feel free to subscribe to the feed and comment on what you think on this. See you tomorrow then dear readers.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everybody! Have fun eating chocolate. I’m sure there’s a reason you’re reading this instead of eating chocolate/playing games, but I don’t mind.

This marks the end of the week where I did a daily post from playthrough of Hitman. Well, I have a lot more missions to play, so I may return to it at a later date. Maybe tomorrow? Who knows? You’ll just have to wait and see.

My “so you want to be a games writer” even though I’m not really one post

A certain Jaz McDougall put a link out to a post put out by Michael Walbridge, saying why he was quitting the games journalism business. Craig, from Gaming Daily, called him (Not Jaz. I think) an idiot. I said he wasn’t. Seeing as this discussion was over Twitter, I didn’t have the space to write back a proper response. Even more annoyingly, I couldn’t post anything because I was away. However, lucky for him, that gave me a week of doing very little to write up a big long response. I’m sure both of them are ecstatic at the thought. Continue reading

Merry Christmas!

As today is Christmas Day, I’d like to wish all gamers around the world a Merry Christmas, and hope you all have a great day. Sadly, I’m unlikely to get a post done for this Monday, so I may have to leave that one, but Thursday should still be okay. Don’t pretend you’re sad.

And don’t forget that games are more important than family.
